Our History

2002 - The Society was born by a small group of Myanmar physicians (less than ten physicians, Dr. Daisy Saw, Dr. Shu Y. Chin, Dr. Khin Khin Hla, Dr. Tin Myint, Dr. Myat Myat Mon, Dr. San San Wynn, Dr. Joseph Yoe) who met informally for Dinner at Dr. Mon’s apartment in summer 2002.

At that time, the organization was named “The Myanmar American Medical Society, United States” (MAMSUS).  The website http://mamsus.org was created.

Recruitment of members from Myanmar Physicians was done throughout the year 2002 and 2003.

2003 -In December 2003, the core members of the organization decided to structure it to the Incorporation. Board of Trustees, Board of Directors and Executive Council were formed.

2004 - The organization name was modified to Myanmar American Medical Education Society (MAMES) according to the guideline from New York State for non-profit organization.  The Society was incorporated as a non-profit, charitable, educational, and scientific organization and approved under the section 501 (C) (3).

The Board of Directors and Executive Council of the Society have been guided by the following missions:

To promote the culture and the exchange of scientific information in Myanmar Medical Community
To provide the information and support for the Medical Education of Myanmar Physicians

$120,000.00 contribution to rebuild the community damaged by Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar

2009 –

Education Program was included in Myanmar Medical Mission

2010 –

Residency Mock Interview Program started

The new website http://mamesociety.org was created

2011 –

$ 2000.00 contribution to Japanese Medical Society of America (JMSA) for Tsunami in Japan

2012 – 

Welcome and Graduation Event for Residents and Fellows started

Observership program for Associate Members, partnered with CAMS

2013 and The Future  -   Medical Educational Resources Center, CommunityHealth Care Center, International Health Care Center in Myanmar and more
